Check Ups and Care

At Care 4 Teeth we can help ensure the long term health of your smile by maintaining your teeth and gums with regular preventive checkups and scale and cleans which result in less costly visits and less dental emergencies. Our aim is to help every single patient achieve their dream smile.

Regular check-ups will prevent minor problems from becoming major ones which is far more cost effective and maintainable.

Scale and Clean Check-ups and Routine Care

Maintaining good oral hygiene over a lifetime takes discipline and commitment. In fact, your smile is one of the first things people notice about you; and usually leaves a lasting impression on others. At Care 4 teeth, we recommend a visit every six months. This will help prevent or minimize problems that arise due to decay, unhealthy eating, poor brushing and lack of flossing. With regular check-ups, any problems identified at an early stage are easier to deal with and will help prevent further damage.

Why are Scale and Cleans and Routine Care crucial?

Routine scale and clean checkups can help prevent rising complications and ensure that your mouth is overall healthy. Many times we put off irritating sore gums or don’t notice a decaying tooth until the pain gets considerably worse and the only way to detect it is through routine dental checkups. In the routine checkups your teeth, gums, and jaw are examined and any issues arising are dealt with instantaneously. Every 6 months your teeth require scaling and polishing which is also performed during your routine checkups. The purpose of a scale and clean is to remove any build up of plaque and tartar on the teeth, between the teeth and along the gum line. While some people may only require 6 monthly check ups, some might require more frequent visits, so it’s up to the dentist to suggest the time of check-ups on the basis of your basic dental and oral health.

The process of dental check-up and care:
  • The dentist will enquire about your general health or dental issues, your brushing and flossing habits, and will include questions about your diet, smoking and alcohol intake.
  • Give advice on all the issues that will affect your oral hygiene.
  • Examination performed by the dentist of teeth, mouth, gums and around the jaw/throat.
  • Perform the scale and clean.
  • Polish the teeth and apply a topical fluoride.
  • Fix an appointment for next routine visit (6 months)
  • Fix an appointment to fix all the issues that have arisen (if applicable)
  • Digital x-rays will be taken to check in between the teeth
  • An OPG (full mouth x-ray) will be taken to check the entire mouth
  • A 3-D Cone beam x-ray might be recommended to show the dentist your mouth and jaw in 3D view. This is not always taken during a check-up unless required.
  • Photographs of the teeth will be taken

Brushing

Brushing your teeth is the most important part of dental hygiene. Care for Teeth recommends brushing your teeth twice a day with a soft-bristle brush.

Flossing

Flossing is an important when it comes to maintaining healthy teeth. Regular flossing removes plaque and bacteria that cannot be reached with your toothbrush. If you don’t floss daily, you are not cleaning as thoroughly and effectively as you should be.

Bad Breath

Nobody likes to admit to having bad breath. There are a number of causes for bad breath like:

  • Your food intake
  • Lack of proper hygiene
  • Dry mouth/dehydrated
  • Decay in tooth
  • Gum Disease
  • Medical conditions
  • Drug use
The top steps to keep your mouth healthy and happy:
  • Floss and brush teeth regularly
  • Clean and brush your tongue
  • Drink a lot of water
  • Use a mouthwash that contains the ingredient ‘chlorine dioxide’. This helps prevent the build up of tartar
  • Use sugar free chewing gum
  • Avoid smoking

Our dentists at Care 4 Teeth recommend a check up every 6 months. We also teach the importance of good oral hygiene and how to brush and floss your teeth correctly to help ensure your mouth remains healthy for life.
