Happy Gas (Nitrous Oxide/Conscious Sedation)

Nitrous Oxide (N2O) or Happy Gas is used as a sedation method during treatment when a patient suffers dental anxiety. When inhaled, it can induce feelings of euphoria and sedation. It helps relax and emits pleasurable feelings so your visit is more comfortable. It also can produce sensations of drowsiness, warmth, and tingling in the hands, feet and/or about the mouth. In the dental setting, it will not induce unconsciousness. You will be able to swallow, talk and cough as needed. Nitrous Oxide is colourless and odourless and works quickly and effectively. It is safe to use and the effects are reversible. You are able to drive to and from your appointment as there is no need for assistance Happy Gas is great for Children who suffer dental anxiety and are scared of pain.

How is Happy Gas Administered?

Happy Gas is administered and inhaled firstly with 100% oxygen then it is mixed with the happy gas through a mask placed over the nose. You then breathe through the nose only. Once the treatment is finished, we run 100% oxygen for a few minutes to bring the body back to its original state.
